The Challenge

The Seafood Shack is a popular food spot on Worthing Beach, Barbados which was built in 2021 from a 40ft high cube container cut to 20ft container. Fully insulated and fitted with doors and windows, sinks, counter space, aluminum checkered plate flooring, extraction hood and multiple 220v and 110v electrical points, camera points and network access points. It features recessed lighting on the inside with security lighting and decorative lighting on the outside of a beautifully cladded finish of pine planks torched using a Japanese technique called Shou-sugi-ban.

The container was built to be next to the ocean so the main materials used for ease of maintenance and longevity of the project are wood, plastic, stainless steel and aluminum. Hurricane shutters were fitted for safety and security.
